Selection Process for TNUAVC Recruitment 2026
- Short Listing
- Interview
COMPLETE PREPARATION TIPS :
1. First: Identify the post YOU should target
Since you’re a CSE student, don’t randomly prepare for every post.
Your strongest potential targets are likely:
🥇 RPTO Supervisor
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science/Management or another recognized discipline, with aerospace/aviation/electronics/mechanical backgrounds preferred. Knowledge of RPTO procedures and aviation/drone experience is desirable.
🥈 Drone Co-Pilot
The listed requirement emphasizes drone-operation certification/relevant technical qualification and basic UAV systems/field operations; the recruitment page says freshers with strong interest in drone technology may also apply.
🥉 Drone Pilot
This is more specialized because the listed qualification is a valid DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), with drone operating experience preferred.
RPTO Instructor
This is considerably more specialized: the listing asks for a DGCA-certified drone pilot with 1+ year of drone piloting/training experience.
Important: Before choosing a post, verify the exact official notification/application form because eligibility and experience requirements are post-specific.
2. Your preparation strategy
Because there is apparently no written test, don’t spend 80% of your time doing aptitude questions.
Instead:
Your preparation split
30% — UAV/drone technical knowledge
25% — Interview questions
20% — CSE/engineering fundamentals
15% — Resume + project preparation
10% — Communication + HR
3. UAV FUNDAMENTALS — MUST LEARN
If you’re targeting Drone Co-Pilot / RPTO Supervisor / Drone-related roles, this is your highest-priority subject.
Learn these in order:
Level 1 — Drone basics
Understand:
- What is UAV?
- What is UAS?
- UAV vs drone
- Types of drones
- Multirotor
- Fixed-wing
- Hybrid VTOL
- Quadcopter
- Hexacopter
- Octocopter
- Applications of drones
You should be able to answer:
What is a UAV?
A UAV is an unmanned aircraft operated without a human pilot being physically onboard, either remotely or through autonomous systems.
4. Learn every major drone component
You should know the purpose of:
Hardware
- Frame
- Motors
- Propellers
- ESC
- Flight controller
- Battery
- GPS
- IMU
- Gyroscope
- Accelerometer
- Magnetometer
- Barometer
- Radio transmitter
- Receiver
- Telemetry module
- Camera
- Gimbal
You should be able to explain the complete flow:
Battery → ESC → Motor → Propeller
and
Sensors → Flight Controller → Control algorithms → ESC → Motors
5. Flight controller — VERY IMPORTANT
Learn:
- What is a flight controller?
- Why is it required?
- IMU
- Gyroscope
- Accelerometer
- Barometer
- GPS
- Magnetometer
- PID controller
- Stabilization
- Attitude estimation
A likely interview question:
What happens if the flight controller fails?
You should explain that the flight controller is central to stabilization and control; failure can result in loss of controlled flight, depending on the aircraft architecture and redundancy.
6. Learn drone movements
You MUST understand:
Throttle
Controls altitude.
Roll
Movement around the longitudinal axis.
Pitch
Movement around the lateral axis.
Yaw
Rotation around the vertical axis.
Remember:
Roll → left/right tilt
Pitch → forward/backward tilt
Yaw → rotation
This is extremely important for interviews.
7. Learn GPS and navigation
Study:
- GPS
- GNSS
- Waypoints
- Return-to-Home
- Geofencing
- Position hold
- Altitude hold
- Compass
- Home point
- Autonomous flight
- Manual flight
- Assisted flight
Potential question:
What happens if GPS is lost during flight?
You should discuss how the aircraft’s behavior depends on its flight controller, flight mode, configuration and failsafe settings. Don’t simply say “the drone will crash.”
8. Learn PID control
This is especially useful for an engineering/CSE candidate.
Understand:
P — Proportional
I — Integral
D — Derivative
Know:
- Why PID is used
- Error
- Setpoint
- Feedback
- Overshoot
- Oscillation
- Stability
Basic concept:
Error = Desired value − Current value
The controller uses this error to adjust the system.
9. Learn batteries
You should know:
- LiPo batteries
- Voltage
- Capacity
- Current
- C-rating
- Battery cells
- Charging
- Discharging
- Battery safety
- Battery swelling
- Low-voltage failsafe
Possible interview:
Why are LiPo batteries commonly used in drones?
Answer around:
high energy density + high discharge capability + relatively low weight.
10. Learn drone communication
Study:
- Transmitter
- Receiver
- Radio link
- Telemetry
- Frequency
- Communication range
- Signal loss
- Interference
- Failsafe
Know the difference between:
Control link
and
Telemetry link
11. Learn drone safety
This can be VERY important in an interview.
Prepare:
- Pre-flight checklist
- Weather assessment

- Drone registration
- Airspace restrictions
- Safety requirements
Do not memorize outdated rules from random YouTube videos.
Regulations can change, so use the latest DGCA/government material when preparing.
13. RPTO — MUST KNOW
Because there are several RPTO-related vacancies, understand:
Remote Pilot Training Organisation
Learn:
- What is an RPTO?
- Why is an RPTO needed?
- Drone pilot training
- Flight training
- Ground training
- Safety training
- Assessment
- Instructor responsibilities

For an RPTO Supervisor interview, this could become particularly important.
14. Drone applications
Prepare examples from:
Agriculture
- Crop monitoring
- Precision agriculture
- Spraying
- Disease detection
Surveying
- Mapping
- Topographic surveys
- 3D modelling
- Photogrammetry
Disaster management
- Flood monitoring
- Search and rescue
- Damage assessment
Infrastructure
- Power-line inspection
- Construction monitoring
- Railway inspection
Public safety
- Surveillance
- Emergency response

Defence/security
Understand the advantages and limitations rather than just memorizing applications.
15. Learn basic image processing / computer vision
Because you’re from CSE, this can make you stand out.
Study basic:
- Image acquisition
- Object detection
- Object tracking
- Image classification
- Computer vision
- OpenCV
- YOLO
- Bounding boxes
- Segmentation
- GPS-tagged images
You don’t need to become an AI expert before the interview.
But being able to say:
“Drone imagery can be processed using computer vision models such as YOLO for object detection”
can make your CSE background relevant.
16. Learn mapping and photogrammetry
At least understand:
- Aerial photography
- Orthomosaic
- Photogrammetry
- GCP
- DEM
- DSM
- 3D reconstruction
- Image overlap
- Ground sampling distance (GSD)
Potential question:
How can a drone create a map?
Basic answer:
Capture overlapping aerial images → identify common features → determine camera/scene geometry → reconstruct → generate orthomosaic/3D products.
17. CSE preparation
Because you’re a CSE student, interviewers may ask about your degree.
Prepare:
Programming
- C
- C++
- Python
- Java
At minimum revise:
- Variables
- Loops
- Functions
- Arrays
- Strings
- Pointers
- OOP
- Basic data structures

Since you’re already working on DAA, revise:
- Arrays
- Linked lists
- Stack
- Queue
- Trees
- Graphs
- BFS
- DFS
- Sorting
- Binary search
- Dynamic programming basics
Don’t go extremely deep unless the interviewer asks.
18. Your projects are VERY important
Don’t just put projects on your resume.
For every project, prepare:
1. Problem
What problem were you solving?
2. Objective
What did your system achieve?
3. Technology
Why did you select those technologies?
4. Architecture
How does the system work?
5. Your contribution
What exactly did YOU build?
6. Challenges
What problems did you face?
7. Solution
How did you solve them?
8. Future scope
What would you improve?
19. Your introduction
You need a strong 60–90 second introduction.
Structure:
Name → Degree → technical skills → projects → interest in UAV/technology → why TNUAVC
Don’t say:
“My weakness is I am a perfectionist…”
Avoid generic HR answers.
20. Questions you MUST practice
HR
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to join TNUAVC?
- Why should we select you?
- What are your strengths?
- What is your weakness?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Are you willing to work in Chennai?
- Are you comfortable working in field operations?

Scenario 10
You need to conduct a survey over a large area.
For every scenario, answer using:
Detect → Assess → Safety action → Recovery → Report/document
That structure will make your answers much stronger.
23. A major advantage you can create
Since you’re CSE, don’t present yourself merely as:
“I want a drone job.”
Instead position yourself as:
CSE + AI/Software + UAV
This combination is valuable.
For example:
UAV + Computer Vision
UAV + AI
UAV + GIS
UAV + IoT
