Selection Process for India Post GDS Schedule II Recruitment 2026
- Shortlisting based on 10th marks (percentage)
- Automatic merit list generation
- Document Verification
- Final selection by the respective postal circle
India Post GDS 2026 — Complete Preparation Plan
1. First understand the selection process
For GDS, do not spend your time preparing for a written exam like SSC/RRB/TNPSC.
Your main focus should be:
10th Marks → Merit List → Document Verification → Final Engagement
So, if your 10th percentage is already fixed, you cannot increase it now. Instead, your preparation should focus on:
- Correct application
- Correct 10th marks/details
- Choosing suitable posts
- Understanding your preferred circle/division
- Having all certificates ready
- Preparing for document verification
- Avoiding application mistakes
The official India Post GDS portal provides the registration, application, fee payment and candidate-related services.
2. Your preparation should start NOW
Phase 1 — Before Registration
25 August – 30 August 2026
Use these days to prepare everything before registration opens.
Keep these documents/details ready
| Document / Information | Status |
|---|---|
| 10th Mark Sheet | ✅ Keep ready |
| 10th Certificate | ✅ Keep ready |
| Aadhaar Card | ✅ Keep ready |
| Mobile Number | ✅ Active |
| Email ID | ✅ Active |
| Passport-size Photograph | ✅ Prepare |
| Signature | ✅ Prepare |
| Category Certificate, if applicable | ✅ Check validity |
| Disability Certificate, if applicable | ✅ Keep ready |
| Date of Birth proof | ✅ Check |
| Address details | ✅ Verify |
| Bank details | ✅ Keep ready |
Very important: Your name, date of birth and other basic details should match your educational/identity records wherever required.
3. Don’t wait until the last date
The current Schedule-II timeline indicates:
| Activity | Date |
|---|---|
| One-Time Registration | 31 Aug – 19 Sep 2026 |
| Online Application | 2 Sep – 21 Sep 2026 |
| Fee Payment | 2 Sep – 21 Sep 2026 |
| Correction Window | 23 – 24 Sep 2026 |
These dates are reported from the Schedule-II notification page; always verify the final instructions on the official GDS portal before submitting.
My recommendation
31 August / 1 September: Complete registration.
Don’t wait until 20 or 21 September.
4. Most important preparation — 10th percentage
This is the biggest difference between GDS and most government exams.
You don’t need to prepare:
❌ General Knowledge
❌ Current Affairs
❌ Quantitative Aptitude
❌ Reasoning
❌ General English
for a GDS written examination, because the selection is based on the prescribed academic merit process rather than a competitive written test.
Therefore, if somebody tells you:
“Study 6 hours daily for GDS exam.”
Be careful.
For this recruitment, your effort is better spent on application accuracy + vacancy strategy + documentation.
5. Calculate your 10th percentage correctly
Before applying, calculate your percentage carefully.
For example:
Tamil = 95
English = 90
Maths = 98
Science = 94
Social Science = 92
Total:
95 + 90 + 98 + 94 + 92 = 469
If the total is out of 500:
469 ÷ 500 × 100 = 93.80%
Keep your actual marks and percentage ready.
Don’t enter an approximate percentage.
6. Don’t ignore Mathematics and English requirements
Even though there isn’t a written GDS exam, educational eligibility and prescribed language/other requirements matter.
So before submitting your application, carefully check the final Schedule-II notification for:
- 10th qualification
- Mathematics
- English
- Local language
- Computer knowledge
- Cycling/other prescribed requirements
- Age limit
- Category requirements
The Department has specifically been working on verification/configuration of 10th educational boards for this Schedule-II cycle.
7. Learn the local language requirement
This is very important if you are applying in a particular State/Circle.
For example, if you are targeting Tamil Nadu Circle, make sure you satisfy the prescribed local-language requirement mentioned in the notification.
Don’t choose a circle simply because it appears to have more vacancies.
Your eligibility for the relevant circle/post must come first.
8. Vacancy selection strategy
This is where you should spend considerable time.
Once the official vacancy list is available, create a table like this:
| Post Office | Post | Category | Your % | Previous Cut-off* | Distance | Preference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Office A | BPM | UR | 92% | 90% | 15 km | 1 |
| Office B | ABPM | UR | 92% | 91% | 20 km | 2 |
| Office C | Dak Sevak | UR | 92% | 89% | 30 km | 3 |
*Previous cut-offs are only for reference, not a guarantee for 2026.
Don’t make this mistake
Don’t automatically select:
“Most popular post office”
Instead consider:
Your percentage + category + vacancy + location + competition + eligibility
9. If your percentage is high
For example:
95%+
You can be relatively aggressive with your preferred vacancies.
Focus on:
- Preferred location
- Preferred post
- Better nearby offices
- Suitable category vacancies
90–94%
You need to be more strategic.
Don’t restrict yourself to only highly competitive locations.
Below 90%
You should examine:
- Available vacancies
- Category
- Rural locations
- Less competitive offices
- Previous merit trends
Again, previous cut-offs cannot guarantee selection because the applicant pool and vacancies change every cycle.
10. Don’t waste time studying GDS mock tests
This is probably the biggest time-saving advice I can give you.
If you’re preparing specifically for GDS Schedule-II 2026, don’t spend your entire day doing:
100 Reasoning Questions
100 Maths Questions
100 GK Questions
That is not the correct preparation strategy for this recruitment.
Instead, use that time for:
Priority 1
Application preparation
Priority 2
Vacancy analysis
Priority 3
Document preparation
Priority 4
Understanding the merit process
Priority 5
Preparing for document verification
11. Your daily plan from today
You don’t need a 6-hour study timetable.
From 25–30 August
30 minutes
Check official GDS updates.
30 minutes
Check your 10th certificate/marksheet.
20 minutes
Prepare photograph and signature.
20 minutes
Check Aadhaar/name/DOB details.
30 minutes
Study the recruitment notification carefully.
30 minutes
Research your preferred circle/district/post offices.
That’s enough.
12. From 31 August
When registration opens:
Day 1
Complete:
One-Time Registration
Then carefully verify:
- Name
- DOB
- Mobile
- 10th details
- Board
- Marks
- Category
- Other required information
Take screenshots/save your:
Registration Number
13. Before final application
Use this checklist:
Personal Details
☐ Name correct
☐ Date of birth correct
☐ Father’s/Mother’s name correct
☐ Mobile number correct
☐ Email correct
Education
☐ 10th board correct
☐ Year of passing correct
☐ Roll number correct
☐ Marks correct
☐ Subjects/details correct
Application
☐ Circle selected correctly
☐ Post preferences checked
☐ Category selected correctly
☐ Documents/details checked
☐ Photograph uploaded correctly
☐ Signature uploaded correctly
☐ Fee status checked if applicable
Final step
Download/Save the submitted application.
Do not depend on your browser history.
14. After application — don’t relax
Once applications close on 21 September, there is a correction window on 23–24 September according to the currently available Schedule-II notice information.
After that, your main job becomes:
Monitor
India Post GDS → Shortlisted Candidates → Document Verification
The official portal publishes GDS engagement/shortlisting information by circle.
15. Prepare for document verification now
Create one physical folder.
Folder
INDIA POST GDS 2026
Inside keep:
- 10th Mark Sheet
- 10th Certificate
- Aadhaar
- Category Certificate
- Other applicable certificates
- Application printout
- Registration details
- Passport photographs
- Other documents mentioned in the notification
Also maintain a PDF folder on your phone/computer.
16. Most important strategy for you
Think of GDS preparation like this:

In simple words:
You cannot improve your 10th marks now.
So your job is to make sure your application doesn’t reduce your chances.
