Selection Process for CTSE Recruitment 2026
1. Written Examination (Computer Based Test – CBT)
The written exam consists of two papers totaling 510 marks (including the interview):
- Paper I (3 Hours – 300 Marks):
- Part A (Tamil Eligibility Test): 100 questions (SSLC standard) – 150 marks. This is a qualifying paper; you must score a minimum of 40% (60 marks) for Parts B & C and Paper II to be evaluated. (Exemption is available for eligible Differently Abled candidates).
- Part B (General Studies): 75 questions (Degree standard).
- Part C (Aptitude & Mental Ability): 25 questions (SSLC standard).(Parts B & C combined carry 150 marks).
- Paper II (3 Hours – 300 Marks):
- Subject Paper: 200 questions (Degree / PG Degree / Diploma standard depending on the post applied for).
- Minimum Qualifying Marks for Selection:
- 135 marks (out of 450 in Paper I Parts B & C + Paper II) for SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM), and BCM candidates.
- 180 marks for “Others” (Unreserved).
2. Onscreen Certificate Verification
Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination are shortlisted for onscreen document verification based on the rule of reservation:
- Posts not requiring experience: Shortlisted in the ratio of 1:3 or 1:4.
- Posts requiring experience: Shortlisted in the ratio of 1:10.
- An expert committee appointed by the respective department verifies experience certificates.
3. Physical Certificate Verification & Interview
Candidates clearing onscreen verification are called for physical certificate verification followed by the Oral Test / Interview:
- Interview Marks: 60 Marks (assesses personality, aptitude, general knowledge, and technical domain proficiency).
- Call Ratio:
- Where vacancies $\ge 5$: 2 times the number of vacancies.
- Where vacancies $\le 4$: 3 times the number of vacancies.
- Posts with single cadre strength: 3 candidates.
4. Final Ranking & Selection
- Tie-Breaking Criteria:
- Candidate senior in age is ranked higher.
- If age is identical, higher score in the Written Examination takes precedence.
- If written marks are also equal, the earlier application submission timestamp (application number) decides rank.
- Allotment / Appointment: Final selection is made strictly according to rank and the rule of reservation through counselling.
PREPARATION TIPS :
1. Understand the Selection Process First
The selection process is broadly:
Written Examination → Onscreen Certificate Verification → Physical Certificate Verification → Interview → Final Selection
The written examination is conducted through Computer Based Test (CBT).
For most posts:
| Paper | Sections | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Paper I | Tamil Eligibility Test | 150 |
| General Studies | Included in Paper I merit | |
| Aptitude & Mental Ability | Included in Paper I merit | |
| Paper II | Post-specific Subject | 300 |
| Interview | Oral Test | 60 |
| Total for Merit | Paper I Part B + C + Paper II + Interview | 510 |
Paper I is 3 hours and Paper II is 3 hours. The Tamil Eligibility Test has a crucial 40% qualifying requirement (60/150). If a candidate fails to reach this mark, the other portions are not evaluated.
⭐ Most Important Point
Do not prepare only for the technical paper.
Your preparation should be:
Tamil → General Studies → Aptitude → Technical Subject → Interview
2. Start With Your Post-Specific Syllabus
This is the most important step because the 31 posts have different technical/professional subjects.
For example:
- Veterinary Assistant Surgeon → Veterinary Science
- Research Assistant → relevant Veterinary PG subject
- Assistant Director of Statistics → Statistics/Mathematics/Economics
- System Analyst → Computer/IT-related subject
- Senior Officer (Finance) → Finance/Accounts
- Manager (Accounts) → Accounts
- Assistant Director of Textiles → Textile-related subject
- Assistant Director of Town & Country Planning → Town Planning
- Engineering/Project posts → relevant Engineering discipline
- English Reporter → English Stenography
- Tamil Reporter → Tamil Stenography
The notification specifies the appropriate subject paper against the relevant post/qualification. Candidates should select only the subject paper for which they satisfy the prescribed qualification.
Preparation Rule
Don’t study every technical subject.
Choose your eligible post/subject first and download/read the exact TNPSC syllabus for that subject.

Every time you answer incorrectly:

This becomes extremely valuable before the exam.
10. Daily Study Timetable
If you can study 6 hours/day, follow this:
| Time | Subject |
|---|---|
| 1 Hour | Technical Subject |
| 1 Hour | Technical Subject |
