RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for RRB Group D will be calculated in terms of nationality, educational qualification, and age limit. Only those candidates will be selected for RRB Group D recruitment process who fulfill the RRB Group D Eligibility Criteria as mentioned below An eligibility update for RRB Group D 2026 has been notified saying CCAA-certified candidates are eligible to apply for Railway Group D CCAA Recruitment 2026.
Nationality
A candidate must be either:
a. a citizen of India, or
b. a citizen of Nepal, or
c. a subject of Bhutan, or
d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
f. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates with a 10th pass or ITI or equivalent or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT are eligible to apply for the RRB Group D 2026 Exam.
- Candidates with Course Completed Act Apprentices/ITI for the post of Level-1 unless otherwise specified.
- Those awaiting the results of their final examination of the prescribed minimum educational/technical qualification are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates who have completed Course Complete Act Apprentices from any trade.
Age Limit (as on 01/01/2026)
Candidates who fall in the age group of 18 to 33 years as of 01st January 2026 are eligible to apply for the Railway RRB Group D exam. Age relaxation is provided as per the norms.
Medical Standards
Candidates invited for Document Verification (DV) must pass the Railway Administration’s medical fitness test(s). This ensures they are medically capable of performing the duties required for their chosen post(s).

The vacancies will be recruited for 7 departments including Mechanical, Electrical, Engineering, Signal & Telecommunication, Stores, Medical, and Traffic. Assistant Workshop (Mechanical)
- Keep track of the maintenance of coaches and wagons of the workshop department.
- They have to ensure the security and maintenance of the coaches.
- They have to prevent any breakdown of Bogie shop, Wheel shop, or Furnish shop, etc.
- Employees are posted in a carriage and wagon workshop
Assistant (Carriage & Wagon) (Mechanical)
- Promote Trip schedule Maintenance
- Addressing the issues of BPC (Brake Power Certificate)
- Ensure Pit line Maintenance
- Responsible for Intermediate Overhaul Maintenance
- Responsible for ART (Accident Relief Train) Maintenance
Assistant Bridge (Engineering)
- Giving assistance to the seniors in the construction of new bridges to be constructed by railway authority.
- Responsible for the availability of materials required in proper quantity and quality and act as a helping hand in designing the overall construction.
Assistant Loco Shed/ Diesel (Mechanical)
The employees are responsible for the care of the overhauling of diesel locomotives
Assistant Depot (Stores)
- Procurement and supply of components to major mechanical, electrical, signal, and telecom workshops
- Responsible for the maintenance of coaches, wagons.
- Assistant (Depot) also supplies spare parts to major diesel and electric locomotive sheds.
Assistant Loco Shed (Electrical)
The electrical SSE in the Railway department section is responsible for working on the TRS sheds engaged in overhauling and assembly level maintenance of 25KV AC electric Locos in electrical loco sheds.
Assistant Pointsman (Traffic)
- Handling of switches or railroad points
- Controlling the lever to direct the train to the required tracks
Assistant Operation (Electrical)
- Ensures electrical supply and assists the operation manager.
- Under the supervision of a senior engineer, he does the maintenance of electrical appliances of the train and station.
Assistant S&T (Signal & Telecommunication)
- Works under the supervision of the senior officer.
- To provide signals to the trains as per the situations.
- Part of the panel interlocking system. 4. Also hands over the token to the driver after granting line clearance to enter the block section.
Assistant TL & AC (Electrical)
- To look over the TL & AC (Train Lights and AC).
- To look over the proper functioning of the train’s electrical appliances and connections eg: proper functioning of signal LEDs, AC controllers, power Supplies, stabilizations, etc.
Assistant Track Machine (Engineering)
- Repairs the machines under the supervision of seniors.
- Also ensures the availability of tools/ gadgets required for the effective working of the track machine.
Assistant TL & AC/ Workshop (Electrical)
- To ensure the availability of tools and gadgets required by assistant TL & AC Engineers.
- To look over the maintenance of lights, bulbs, fans, AC ducts, temperature control of ACs, stabilizations & all other electrical appliances.
Assistant Works (Engineering)
- Enrolled in the manufacturing department of all kinds of rail assets like the manufacturing of coaches, every appliance of trains, platforms, sheds, etc.
- They have to create new designs for the betterment of Indian Railways.
Assistant Traction Distribution (Electrical)
- Responsible for the maintenance of electrical assets like electrical locomotives, Electrical Multiple Units (EMUs), and Mainline Electrical Multiple Units (MEMUs).
- Responsible for all technical and organizational matters connected with the efficient maintenance and operation of the power supply installations, OHE, and RC equipment.
Assistant Works/ Workshop (Engineering)
- To assist the seniors in manufacturing
- To ensure the availability of materials (tools and gadgets) required.
- Handles all the fitting and welding work in manufacturing under the supervision of their seniors.
Track Maintainer Grade-IV (Mechanical)
- Maintaining tracks
- Will have to walk along the track checking the condition of the track, attend to minor works like tightening/providing clamps, joints, etc.
- Keep an eye over the breakdown of tracks
- Provides proper, safe, and smooth track to the trains
- Look over every repair and maintenance of the track line.
Hospital Assistant (Medical)
- Providing proper care to the ailing passenger during treatment
- Taking care of medical aids & their requirements in the stations
- Cleaning Medical Equipment.
RRB Group D Posts & Promotion
The employees are promoted from RRB Group D to Group C on the basis of departmental exams which are conducted timely providing an opportunity for employees to grab promotions. The candidates are eligible for the exam after every 3 years of regular service. Those who fail to qualify for the departmental examination on their first attempt can appear again. RRB Group D 2026 Level 1 Exam Pattern
Railway Administration reserves the right to conduct the CBT in either single or multi-stage mode. Candidates qualifying in the CBT shall have to undergo a Physical Efficiency Test (PET). It will be followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. There shall be a negative marking for 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer.
The minimum percentage of marks for shortlisting for UR is 40%, EWS is 40%, OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST is 30%.

RRB Group D Exam Pattern for 2nd Stage PET
Based on the merit of the candidates in the Computer-Based Test (CBT), candidates shall be called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Three times the community-wise total vacancy of the Posts notified against RRBs/RRCs. However, the Railways Board reserves the right to increase/decrease this ratio as required to ensure the availability of an adequate/reasonable number of candidates for all the notified posts. Passing the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory, and the same will be qualifying in nature. The criterion for PET is as under:

RRB Group D Exam Pattern for 3rd Stage: Document Verification
Based on the performance of candidates in the CBT subject, to their qualifying in PET, candidates will be called for document verification.
Shortlisted candidates should produce NOC from the employer on the date of his/her DV, failing which their candidature will be canceled. The signatures of the candidates on all documents should be identical, either in English or Hindi.

RRB Group D 2026 Admit Card
The CBT Admit card will be released tentatively 10 days before the exam date. The Admit Card for PET will be issued to those candidates who have successfully cleared CBT of RRB Group D Level-I 2026. To login to the official website of the Railway Recruitment Board, a candidate is supposed to have:
- Registration Number/Roll Number (पंजीकरण संख्या/रोल नंबर)
- Date of Birth/Password (जन्म तिथि / पासवर्ड)
The admit card for the RRB Group D 2026 exam will be issued to candidates in two phases:
- For CBT (CBT के लिए )
- For PET (PET के लिए )
All candidates must go through the guidelines provided on the official website of Railway before downloading his/her admit card.
RRB Group D 2026 Answer Key
Once the exam is over, the Railway Recruitment Board will release the provisional answer key with the correct responses to the questions asked in the examination. The candidates will also be allowed to challenge the answer key with a fixed amount. The final answer key will be released after the objections are assessed by the exam authority.
RRB Group D 2026 Result
The Railway Recruitment Board will be announcing the result for CBT after the examination for the same has been conducted. Results will be announced for CBT first. Candidates who clear CBT will be allowed to take the PET of the Railway Group D 2026 Exam. Results for PET will be released after the Physical Test for Men and Women has been successfully conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board.
Selection Process for RRB Group D Recruitment 2026
The selection process for various Group D posts will include the following stages-
- Computer-Based Test- CBT will assess your knowledge in various subjects like Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and General Awareness.
- Physical Efficiency Test- PET is designed to evaluate your physical fitness and includes tests like running, long jump, and high jump.
- Medical Examination- A medical examination will also be conducted to assess your overall health and fitness for the job.
- Document Verification- To ensure that all the information provided in your application is accurate.
Application Fees for RRB Group D Recruitment 2026
The candidates who are interested in RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 have to pay the requisite application fee as per the table below. The fees are to be paid online through debit, credit, and net banking.

Refund Amount (On Appearing For CBT)
- For GEN/OBC: Out of this fee of Rs 500 an amount of Rs 400 shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges, on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.
- For SC/ST/PWD/Women/Ex-Sm/Transgender/Minorities/Economically Backward: This fee of Rs 250 shall be refunded duly deducting bank charges as applicable on appearing in 1st Stage CBT.
How to Apply for RRB Group D Recruitment 2026?
Candidates have to submit their online applications for RRB Group D Recruitment 2026 by following the below-mentioned steps.
- Visit the official website http://www.rrbcdg.gov.in/.
2. Click on the ‘New Registration’ link.
3. Register for the exam and submit the required details like name, date of birth and father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar Number, SSLC/Matric registration number, year of passing, mobile number, email ID and then submit the registration form.
4. Upon registration, candidates need to verify their email ID and mobile number through OTP.
5. Login on the home page using the registration number and password.
6. In Part I of the application page, candidates had to provide the details of educational qualification, community, gender, religion, Ex-Servicemen, CCAA, Minority, Economically Backward Class Age Relaxation and other details.
7. In Part II of the application page, candidates had to indicate his/her priority/preference for the posts.
8. On completion of application details, candidates were redirected to the payment page using Online Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI and Offline Challan.
9. Candidates were required to choose the exam language.
10. Candidates had to fill in the details of a valid photo ID card.
11. Enter bank details to get the refund of fees.
12. Candidates had to upload their scanned images of photographs and signatures as per the format and SC/ST candidates were required to upload the category certificates.
13. Candidates had to agree to the terms and conditions and submit the application form.
RRB Group D 2026 Application Form
The RRB Group D Apply Online process will be conducted from 21st January to 20th Feburary 2026 as mentioned in the short notification. Candidates interested in RRB Group D vacancies had submitted their online applications to be eligible to appear for the RRB Group D Level 1 Exam 2026.
