PREPARATION TIPS:

Syllabus you should expect (important!)

Even if exact syllabus isn’t given, TN govt exams usually include:

📘 Core sections

  • General Knowledge (Tamil Nadu + India)
  • General English / Tamil
  • Aptitude & Reasoning
  • Computer Knowledge (very important for assistant posts)

👉 TN-style exams often follow:

  • Tamil eligibility test + General Studies + Aptitude

Smart preparation strategy

🔹 Step 1: Build basics (first 20–25 days)

  • Read 6th–10th TN State Board books (very important for GK)
  • Focus on:
    • History (especially Tamil Nadu)
    • Polity basics
    • Geography
    • Economy basics

👉 This alone covers 60% of GK questions

Step 2: Aptitude + reasoning (daily practice)

Spend 1–2 hours daily:

  • Percentages, ratio, averages
  • Time & work, profit & loss
  • Number series, coding-decoding
  • Simplification

👉 Practice is key — theory alone won’t help

Step 3: Computer knowledge (HIGH PRIORITY)

Many candidates ignore this — don’t.

Focus on:

  • MS Word, Excel basics
  • Internet & email
  • Shortcuts
  • Basic IT terms

👉 For assistant posts, this can decide selection

Step 4: Language (Tamil/English)

  • Grammar basics
  • Synonyms / antonyms
  • Error correction
  • Comprehension

👉 If Tamil paper is qualifying, just aim to clear cutoff safely

Step 5: Current affairs (last 6–8 months)

  • Tamil Nadu schemes
  • Fisheries/agriculture-related news (important for TNJFU)
  • Budget, awards, science

Daily study plan (simple & effective)

Morning (2–3 hrs)
→ GK (static subjects)

Afternoon (1–2 hrs)
→ Aptitude + reasoning practice

Evening (1 hr)
→ Computer + current affairs

Night (1 hr)
→ Revision + mock questions

Mock test strategy (very important)

  • Start after 2–3 weeks preparation
  • Attempt 2–3 mocks per week
  • Analyze mistakes (this is where improvement happens)

High-scoring tips (game changers)

✔ Focus more on accuracy than speed
✔ Revise multiple times (not new topics daily)
✔ Practice previous year TNPSC-type questions
✔ Make short notes (1-page revision sheets)
✔ Don’t ignore easy sections like computer & Tamil

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Studying too many books
  • Ignoring mock tests
  • Skipping computer section
  • Not revising

If you’re preparing for Assistant Professor

Then your strategy changes:

  • Focus deeply on your subject (Fisheries / Life Science etc.)
  • Prepare:
    • PG-level concepts
    • Research methodology
    • Teaching/demo skills
  • Be ready for interview questions

Final advice

This is not a “very tough exam” like UPSC — but competition is high.

👉 If you:

  • Cover basics well
  • Practice regularly
  • Do mocks seriously

You can definitely crack it.
