Major Changes in SSC CGL 2026 Exam
- Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer posts are released this year.
- Sectional Timing has been introduced in both Tier 1 and Paper 1 of Tier 2.
- Now there are three papers in the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam, wherein Paper 2 is for JSO posts and Paper 3 for AAO.

Educational Qualification
- For Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer: Bachelor’s Degree (Essential). Desirable: Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant, Company Secretary, Masters in Commerce, MBA, or Master’s in Business Studies.
- For Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)- Bachelor’s Degree from any recognised University with a minimum 60% in Mathematics in Class 12th
or in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects in graduation. - For Statistical Investigator Grade-II- Graduation Degree from any recognised University with Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics as a compulsory or Elective Subject.
- For Research Assistant in National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute with a minimum of one year of research experience in any recognized university or recognised Research Institution.
- For remaining posts- Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University.

Nationality
A candidate must be a citizen/subject of either India/Nepal/Bhutan/a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
Selection Process for SSC CGL Recruitment 2026
Stage 1 Tier-I: Computer-Based Examination (Qualifying in nature).
Stage 2 Tier-II: Paper I (Compulsory for all posts), Paper-II for candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, and Paper-III for candidates who apply for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO).
Final selection is based on merit-cum-preference of posts given by the candidate. Once a post is allotted, no change will be made by the Commission.

Tier-I Examination
Tier I consists of objective-type, multiple-choice questions set in both English and Hindi (except English Comprehension). Negative marking: 0.50 marks per wrong answer. The Sectional timing of 15 minutes for each subject has been introduced this year.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern 2026
SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam will be conducted online, comprising 4 sections with 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in total and with a maximum of 200 marks. The entire exam needs to be completed in a time span of 60 minutes. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam will be of a qualifying nature, and marks will not be counted in the final selection.

The SSC CGL selection process has two examination tiers followed by document verification. There is no interview round- your final selection is based solely on marks scored in Tier 2.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Syllabus 2026
The Tier 1 exam consists of 4 subjects with 25 questions each, totalling 100 questions and 200 marks, to be solved in 60 minutes with 15-minute sectional timing. Each wrong answer deducts 0.5 marks. Focus on the easiest subjects first to build momentum- Reasoning and General Awareness are usually the quickest to score in.

SSC CGL 2026 Online Form
SSC CGL 2026 Application Fee
The candidates have to pay Rs. 100/- while submitting their SSC CGL Application Form online at www.ssc.gov.in. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and ESM are eligible for reservation and are exempted from the application fee payment. Fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa / Mastercard / Maestro / RuPay Debit cards. Last date for online fee payment: 23 June 2026 (23:00 hours). Fee once paid is non-refundable.
How to Apply for SSC CGL 2026?
- Visit the official SSC website: ssc.gov.in
- Click on “Apply” and then “Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026”
- Register using a valid email ID and mobile number to get your Registration ID
- Fill in the online application form with personal, educational, and other required details
- Capture a live photo via webcam/mobile as per the instructions provided
Upload signature and other required documents - Pay the application fee online (if applicable) through the available payment modes
Submit the form and take a printout for future reference.
Application Correction Window: Candidates can correct mistakes in their application form between 29 June 2026 and 01 July 2026 (23:00 hours), including online payment for any additional fee arising from corrections.
SSC CGL Pay Scale Structure
SSC CGL posts offer competitive pay scales under the 7th Pay Commission. The in-hand salary (gross) ranges from approximately ₹35,000 to ₹65,000 per month, depending on the post and city of posting (HRA varies).

SSC CGL Preparation Tips
Step 1- Study the official syllabus & exam pattern before anything else. Know what’s tested and how.
Step 2- Create a 90-day study plan. Allocate 6–8 hours daily. Give more time to your weak subjects.
Step 3- Practice previous year papers (PYQs 2017–2025). Identify repeating topics and question patterns.
Step 4- Take at least 2 full-length mock tests per week. Analyse mistakes. Improve speed & accuracy.
Step 5- Read a newspaper daily. 25 questions in Tier 1 come from General Awareness & Current Affairs.
Step 6- Practice with sectional timing (NEW for 2026). Each section is now time-bound — adjust your strategy.
SSC CGL 2026 Exam Centres
SSC will be conducting the SSC CGL 2026 exam across the country in different centres. You can choose your nearest exam centre while filling out the application form.
